Imphal, June 27 2024:
The Students' Front of Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has appealed to all students and teachers of educational institutions in the state to take part in the "Save Manipur Walk (Manipur Kanba Khongchat)" to be held on Friday.
Addressing the media at its Lamphelpat office, on Thursday, Front coordinator Ningthoujam Dhanakumar Meitei urged all students and teachers to participate and showcase the unity and strength of the people of Manipur for protecting the state from external forces.
He especially urged Class IX and above students to take part in the walk which will begin from 9am from THAU ground, Thangmeiband and conclude at Khuman Lampak, even if the government declares Friday a holiday.
While the conflict has been lingering for over a year, there is no sign of any solution from any angle, consequently exacerbating suffering of the people day-by-day.
Thus, COCOMI has taken on the responsibility of ensuring a collective decision of the people in this matter, the coordinator said, while lamenting central government's neglectful treatment of Manipur.
Urging the elected representatives to highlight the people's decision in the on-going session of the parliament, he stressed that time has come to safeguard the state from the impact of illegal immigrants and narco-terrorists.
Clarifying that the walk is not against the government, Dhanakumar called upon government employees, MLAs, ministers and public to participate in the walk as well.
Meanwhile, various organisations have extended their support and assured participation in the 'Manipur Kanba walk of COCOMI on Friday.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, Challengers Youth of Khundrakpam AC president Leishangthem James stated that people of Khundrakpam assembly constituency will whole -heartedly join the COCOMI's walk.
Endorsing the agenda put forward by COCOMI including deportation of illegal immigrants, implementation of NRC, and withdrawal of SoO agreement with Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, etc., the president emphasised support of the same by the public through participation in the walk.
James further appealed to the newly elected Manipur MPs to press for discussing proposals put forth by COCOMI in the Parliament and also raise the agenda for delisting of illegal immigrants from the ST list.
Film Forum Manipur also extended support to the mass rally of COCOMI and has appealed to all its members to participate in the same.
