Imphal, May 27 2024:
The results of the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) 2024 declared on Monday marked significant achievements across the state as the pass percentage this year was recorded at 93.03 per cent as 34,931 students scaled the annual test out of 37,547 who appeared.
The HSLCE results were declared at the conference hall of Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) in Babupara, here on Monday with Education (S) commissioner H Gyan Prakash as chief guest and BSEM chairman Akham Joykumar as functional president.
BSEM controller of examinations Ayam Thoi, secretary T Geetchandra, education (S) joint secretary Elangbam Sonia, and education (S) director L Nandakumar were also present at the event as guests of honour.
In his address, commissioner Gyan Prakash highlighted significant changes in this year's HSLC examination compared to previous years.
He noted that traditionally, the results were based on a marking system with rank holders prominently recognised.
However, following an order on March 15, 2024, BSEM adopted a grading system in alignment with the National Education Policy, 2020."This change aims to minimise exam stress and pressure on students, thereby potentially enhancing their overall performance," said Gyan Prakash, who also acknowledged that notwithstanding certain, if any, disadvantages to the new system, the benefits significantly outweigh them.
He reflected on how the HSLCE, historically known as the matriculation examination, was once a major turning point in the education system but has now become a mere step to the next level of education.
With the adoption of the grading system, the concept of rank holders in the examination has been eliminated, he elaborated.

Three candidates were debarred from future examinations due to impersonation, and their results for 2024 have been cancelled.
Additionally, one candidate's result has been withheld.
Over the years, the HSLCE pass percentage has shown a significant upward trend, rising from 61.59 per cent in 2015 to 93.03 per cent in 2024 showing the efforts to enhance the quality of education and examination standards in the state.
