CCpur IDPs warn stir over unmet demands

Imphal, June 26 2025: Churachandpur Meitei United Committee (CMUC) has warned of launching agitation if their charter of demands submitted in the form of memorandums to the Governor, chief secretary and relevant officials earlier are not fulfilled within five days.

Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, Committee co-convenor Naba Ningthoujam expressed resentment over the failure of the government to resolve the current conflict and rehabilitate the displaced people even after two years of the crisis.

He informed that CMUC is formed by five CSOs, and they submitted memorandums with two-point demands to the Governor and chief secretary on March 13 this year.

"The memorandum highlighted the grievances of the IDPs, their current situation and hardships in relief camps.

Though the top administrators assured to address their grievances, no significant initiatives have been taken up so far", he rued.

On April 21, this year, the committee submitted another four-point memorandum to the Governor, chief secretary and Bishnupur DC.

Consequently, they submitted a reminder to the Governor and other officials on Thursday seeking action on the six demands mentioned in the two memorandums.

"If the six-point demands are not met within five days, the IDPs from Churachandpur living in 46 relief camps will carry out democratic forms of agitation," he said, while calling for public support.

The demands sought by the committee included sanctioning educational support package for IDP students, allowing man agement responsibilities of relief camps by the IDPs, prompt issuance of necessary documents to the IDPs of Churachandpur, early rehabilitation of displaced people at their ancestral land, and arrangement of a temporary shelter for Meetei IDPs from Churachandpur until resettlement in their original places.
