To attend a meeting of the NITI Aayog to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister N Biren left for Delhi on Thursday and expressed confident that he would meet the Prime Minister and appeal for ending the crisis in Manipur immediately.
Responding to queries from media persons near the CM Secretariat before leaving Imphal, CM Biren informed that post NITI Aayog meeting, a conclave of chief ministers would be held where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will discuss several issues with the CMs.
Taking advantage of the conclave, he would highlight the present issue and appeal to the Prime Minister for taking immediate measures to resolve the conflict in Manipur, the chief minister confided, while expressing optimism that effective steps would be initiated by the centre.
Regarding the upcoming assembly session, N Biren said he will personally send invitations to the ten Kuki MLAs to attend the same.
Stressing on the importance of unity and cooperation, he reiterated that to personally extend the invitations, as well as through the assembly.
"They (Kuki-Zo MLAs) should join us, and we are ready to cooperate," Biren stated with reference to the sixth session of the Manipur legislative assembly, scheduled from July 31 to August 6 .
The ten MLAs, including two ministers, have been absent from the last two sessions of the Manipur assembly due to ongoing ethnic violence in the state.
The fifth session, held from February 28 to March 05, and the fourth session, which was adjourned after just 11 minutes on August 29 last year, saw no attendance from these legislators.
On burning of a house in Jiribam, the CM said that investigation is underway to ascertain whether people not embroiled in the on-going conflict committed the act of arson taking undue advantage of the unrest situation.
Expressing that the police could have rounded up two people in connection with the incident, Biren maintained that even if no arrest has been effected, proper investigation is in full swing to trace and arrest the culprits within short notice.
