ANUL Moirang urges women to uphold traditions, avoid excess during Yaoshang

Bishnupur, February 25 2026: Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL), Moirang Unit has appealed to the daughters and sisters of Moirang constituency to wear traditional dresses while participating in the Thabal Chongba during the five day festival of Yaoshang.

In a statement issued to the press, ANUL urged the public not to organise Thabal Chongba beyond the five days of Yaoshang.

Highlighting the prevailing situation in the State due to the ethnic tensions, the organisation appealed to young women and children to refrain from engaging in the practice of blocking roads with ropes to collect money during the festivities.

The organisation further requested the nupi sabis (transgender) to not be included in the Thabal Chongba organised by the young girls.

It also advised against extravagant spending on the celebrations and cautioned the band parties and those associated with music systems and lighting arrangements not to charge exorbitant fees, but to fix reasonable rates considering the difficulties faced by the people.

ANUL stated that if any individual or locality fails to comply with the appeal, the organisation will take appropriate action.
