Imphal, September 24 2024:
Several Kuki-Zo bodies have announced imposition of total shutdown on September 28 in all Kuki-Zo inhabited regions.
In a release, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) refuted as entirely unfounded the letter addressed to the Director General of Police (DGP) and the security advisor of the Government of Manipur by the secretary to the chief minister regarding alleged infiltration of 900 Kuki militants and a supposed coordinated attack against the Meeteis on September 28, as well as the subsequent press statement by security advisor Kuldiep Singh addressing security concerns as entirely unfounded.
KIM said as such baseless statements may have been manufactured by the state government to justify a planned attack against the Kuki-Zo people, it shall enforce total shutdown on September 28 in all Kuki Zo inhabited regions.
It also directed that no programmes or functions should be held or organised until September 28 as a precaution along with advising the Kuki-Zo people to remain at home on September 27 and 28 .
"Sensing strong suspicion that the Meeteis may launch coordinated attacks on September 28, all Kuki-Zo village volunteers are advised to reinforce their positions in the buffer zones," specified the KIM directive, while informing that a press conference will be held on September 28 to expose the ulterior motives of the state government and radical Meetei groups against the Kuki-Zo people.
Meanwhile, Zomi Council extended its solidarity to KIM on its proposed shutdown in all Zo inhabited areas on September 28 as Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF), in a release, informed that an emergency meeting was convened and resolved to impose total shutdown on September 28 and closure of borders from September 26 to 29 .
It urged all district security personnel, be it state or central, to remain extremely vigilant in order to thwart any outside attacks.
