Imphal, April 23 2026:
The Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) today distributed relief to around 100 truck drivers stranded at Khongsang on the Imphal-Jiribam Highway due to the United Naga Council's total shutdown.
The drivers have been stuck since the UNC called a three-day shutdown in Naga-inhabited hill districts.
The shutdown was in protest against the killing of two civilians after armed Kuki miscreants allegedly fired on vehicles heading to Ukhrul in the TM Kasom area under Litan Police Station on the Imphal-Ukhrul Road.
The blockade halted trucks carrying goods from Jiribam, leaving drivers without food and clean water in the remote area.
An MDA team travelled to Khongsang and distributed essential items, including rice, dal, cooking oil, salt, potatoes, onions and drinking water.
MDA representatives expressed their deep concern over the frequent disruptions on the State's lifelines.
They urged the authorities to ensure the safety of drivers on both the Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal-Ukhrul routes.
