Civil Secretariat to be completed within 3 months

A meeting of the state cabinet convened on Wednesday has given approval for increasing the upper age limit for chairman and members of Manipur Lok Ayukta from 70 to 71 years by amending Section 6 of Manipur Lok Ayukta, 2014 .
The state cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister N Biren Singh also decided to complete construction of Manipur Civil Secretariat in Mantripukhri within three months and inaugurate the same.
As per sources, the state cabinet meet, which began from 1pm with cabinet ministers in attendance, discussed a total of six agendas of different departments.
The meeting discussed delay in construction of the Manipur Civil Secretariat complex in Mantripukhri which began in 2010 and decided to complete the construction within three months and inaugurate the same.
The meeting also decided to float tenders for incomplete portions and resume construction works at once to complete the project.
Notably, construction of the Manipur Civil Secretariat complex started in the year 2010 by Simplex Projects Private Limited but the state government rejected works assigned to the agency for failing to complete the project within the stipulated time.
The project was then handed over to Avantika Infrastructure Private Limited in 2021.On the other hand, the state cabinet gave approval for increasing the upper age limit for chairman and members of Manipur Lok Ayukta from 70 to 71 years.
As there is necessity to amend Section 6 of Manipur Lok Ayukta, 2014 for doing the same, the state cabinet decided to implement Manipur Lok Ayukta (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024 as there is no assembly session at present.
The state cabinet also discussed holding of general election for 27 Urban Local Bodies barring 1MC Ward No 5 and 19 and decided to fix election schedule after consulting the state election office.
The cabinet also approved one-time relaxation of RR for superintending engineer and additional chief engineer posts of state PWD and change of additional chief engineer-4.In an agenda discussed for higher education department, the state cabinet approved post creation for 52 teaching and 43 non-teaching staff out of 61 teaching and 44 non-teaching staff for four private colleges taken over by the government in 2020 .
The cabinet also approved age relaxation for eight teaching and one non-teaching staff of the four colleges.
The state cabinet also approved enhancement of annual fee for students pursuing MBBS courses at Shija Academy of Health Sciences from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh though the academy had proposed for increasing the annual fee to Rs 6 lakh.
