Kangleipak Calendar Board observes 17th foundation day

The Meitei astrology (apoklon) and calendar (thapalon) can hold its ground when compared to other notable civilizations, said Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) Vice Chancellor Professor Wahengbam Chandbabu Singh.
He made the statement at the 17th foundation day celebration of Kangleipak Calendar Board held at the Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club today.
Addressing the gathering, he said that the origin of Meitei astrology and calendar traces back to the reign of King Maliyapham Palcha.
Though there were no schools, colleges or universities were established during the period, the practice of counting celestial bodies and seasons was established.
He also called upon Kangleipak Calendar Board to work towards safeguarding the Meitei astrology and calendar and their promotion.
