AR pays tribute to bravehearts

Imphal, February 20 2025:
Assam Rifles on Wednesday organised a wreath laying ceremony at Litan in Ukhrul district to honour the bravehearts of 21 Sikh who had laid down their lives in service of the Nation on February 19, 1982 .
According to a release issued by PRO HQ IGAR(South), in February 1982, 21 Sikh Battalion was deployed in a counter insurgency role in Manipur.
On February 19, 1982, Major Ranvir Singh Shekhawat led a convoy of three vehicles transporting personnel and supplies from Imphal to Ukhrul.
While navigating a bend near Namthilok, about 34 km from Imphal, the convoy was ambushed by heavily armed insurgents.
The attack resulted in the death of 19 valiant soldiers.
Demonstrating exceptional bravery.
Major Shekhawat engaged the insurgents until he sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
In recognition of the valour and supreme sacrifice, Major Ranvir Singh Shekhawat was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
During the wreath laying ceremony, Assam Rifles paid homage to the valiant actions of the soldiers who laid down their lives for the Nation, upholding the highest traditions of the Indian Army.
