Imphal, October 19 2026: The State Central Library organised a workshop on "From Scrolling to Reading" under the aegis of the National Mission on Libraries at its auditorium at Keishampat Nityaipat Chuthek today.

Retired IAS officer Dr RK Nimai, Chief Librarian of State Central Library L Pramodkumar and Project Officer, National Mission on Libraries Dipanjan Chaterjee attended the inaugural function as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion,.

Dr RK Nimai said there is a vast difference between reading a book and scrolling the internet to read or gather information.

When reading a book, one can clearly understand the contents and the underlying message, he said.

He said though it is the age of AI, the information provided by AI is limited to what is available on the internet or in specific domains.

AI cannot provide information that is not on the internet and cannot give the joy of reading a book in physical form, he added.

In the technical session, Prof Shalini Lihitkar of RTM Nagpur University and Prof Ch Ibohal of Manipur University spoke on the topics "From Scrolling to Reading" and "From Mobile Screens to Library Shelves" respectively.
