Imphal, August 18 2026: The All Manipur Waree Leeba Association & Research Centre, Khurai Soibam Leikai, has mourned the passing of senior guru and renowned artist Okram Baruni Singh.

Baruni Singh, 94, a recipient of the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award 2007, passed away on August 3, 2026 at his residence in Khewa Phurju, Pukhao.

He was a pioneer of Manipuri narrative art 'Waree Leeba' and served AIR Imphal and DDK Imphal for many years.

In a statement, the Association said his contribution to the preservation and promotion of Waree Leeba is immense and his loss is irreparable.

The Association shared grief with the bereaved family and observed two minutes' silence in his memory.
