Ngajokpa pledges to look into MGNREGS issue

Imphal, May 18 2012: Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Francis Ngajokpa has assured to look into the alleged sloppy manner of implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), the flagship programme of the Union government that ensure 100 days of job to people of rural areas, in the state.

The Minister was speaking on the occasion of a reception function organized in his honour by Willong Block Village Welfare Committee at Willong village under Senapati district yesterday.

Francis assured that strict measures would be taken up to avoid denial of wages to job card holders and misuse of their job cards.

The Minister informed that new job cards would be issued to those who are willing to work under the scheme, but all the forged job card holders would be seriously dealt with, and the wages would be given after proper scrutiny by the Engineer concerned and DC.

Francis observed that in order to develop Manipur, all of us need to come together, irrespective of our caste, creed, sex or religion.

If there is no co-operation between the government and the people in all development programmes, there can be no real development at all in the state.

He recalled that in the year 2010, the Central government had sanctioned an amount of Rs 36 crores for construction of roads along the NH in Maram area.

However, the sanctioned amount went back after the villagers settling along the NH 39 in Maram area caused serious disturbances and stopped the construction work.

As such, the people of the area suffer from bad roads.

Since the sanctioned amount for repairing the road was forced to return back, the state government also faced the problems in trying to retrieve the funds.

The reception function was attended by leaders of nearby villages, various ethnic groups, students and government officials.
