Imphal, April 17 2026: Goods worth approximately Rs 40 lakh were destroyed in an inferno that engulfed Lakshmi Furniture House located at Sawombung under Lamlai police station at 12.30 am today.

An adjoining motor parts shop also suffered significant damages with items worth Rs 8 lakh being burnt to ashes.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

No human casualties have been reported.

Meanwhile, the blaze at the furniture house completely destroyed wooden planks and furniture items including 70 doors and 20 windows as well as other equipment/machines.

After receiving information about the fire, the Fire Brigade arrived and extinguished the blaze.

A report has been filed at Lamlai police station by N Nabakumar Singh, proprietor of Lakshmi Furniture House.

In view of such a huge financial loss, he has sought assistance from the Government.
