Calls for peaceful atmosphere, malpractice-free Board Exams grow louder

Imphal, February 16 2026: With Class XII exams under the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) starting tomorrow, February 17, and Class X Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) exams on February 23, three prominent student and community organisations have united in urgent appeals for malpractice-free testing, smooth logistics, and a peaceful atmosphere amid ongoing disturbances in the State.

In the release, the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) extended its best wishes to all students appearing for the Class XII exams, urging them to rely on their own hard work rather than resorting to unfair means.

It stressed a robust education system-built on dedicated teachers and sincere students for societal progress, while firmly advising educators against improper practices and parents against pushing for high marks via cheating.

DESAM highlighted the need to abandon such habits for true quality education.

The organisation also urged the Works Department to address road diversions and blockages from ongoing blacktopping, requesting alternative routes to prevent travel woes for examinees.

The organisation reaffirmed its antimalpractice stance, promising action against violations and calling on COHSEM for vigilant conduct, with public support encouraged.

The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) also extended warm wishes to both Class X & XII students, viewing these exams as pivotal for their futures and hoping their year's hard work bears fruit.

In a release signed by secretary general Salam Changkhonba, AMSU appealed to parents, guardians, and others to eliminate hindrances like bandhs, general strikes, or festivals during the exam period.

The union specifically demanded authorities curb repeat issues from prior years, including question paper leaks, wrong paper distribution, and delays.

AMSU announced its volunteers would monitor centers to foster a culture of honest effort, contributing to a progressive society.

Similarly, the Wakhalon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA), Kangleipak, urged the public to ensure a peaceful environment for students appearing for the upcoming Class X and XU examinations conducted by BOSEM, COHSEM, and CBSE.

In a release, WAMA focused on the human impact of recent unrest, which has displaced many students and hampered studies.

WAMA requested the cessation of loud festivities like Yaoshang Thabal, Ougri Hangen Chongba, and sports events that use loud music until the exams conclude.

The organisation also urged parents, guardians, local clubs, and Meira Paibis to keep a safe distance from centers while offering encouragement.

WAMA also pressed the State Government for arrangements ensuring smooth travel and accommodation for internally displaced students, expressing optimism that successful examinees would help rebuild society.

All three bodies emphasized quality education's role in development, reaffirming their commitment to upholding exam integrity.
