Imphal, November 15 2008:
THE SYMBIOSIS Institute of Media and Communication, Pune in collaboration with the Department of Mass Communication, Manipur University today organised an educational seminar based on the media industry, prominently of Manipur at the Senate hall of the MU, Canchipur.
Completing a decade in 2008, Footprints in India has been organised in 21 cities across India and also in Dubai this year.
The event was graced by the Pro-vice Chancellor of the MU, Prof.HNK Sharma as the chief guest, former editor of ISTV news, K Modhumangol as the guest of honour and the Director of SIMC and Dean SIU, Prof Ujjwal Kumar Chaudury presided over.
Students of various schools, colleges, working journalists and many others inter ested in knowing the world of media and communication attended the seminar.
Editor of Ireibak, Arun Irengbam, Associate Editor of Poknapham, Bijoy Kakchingtabam, Editor of ISTV News Yumnam Rupachandra, Convenor of Committee on Human Rights, Phulindro Konsam and Co-ordinator, NECEER, Kh Jibankumar spoke on the topic "Media in Manipur: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow".
Former Director of MACS, Dr Khomdon Lisam, Programme Executive of AIR, Dilip Mayengbam and critic of culture, The Telegraph, MC Thoiba spoke on the theme "Traditional Media and Culture of Manipur".
Later a panel discussion followed in which speakers and audience interacted with great enthusiasm.
A Young Achiever's Award was presented to Kh Jogendrajit (presently pursuing the degree of MA in the Mass Communication Dept.
from the MU for his outstanding performance in the Media Industry in Manipur at the young age of 25 .
Prizes were distributed to the school children for the three best Captions submitted during the Caption Writing Competition held during School Campaigns in the city.
An exhibition of various works of different NGO's like Spastic Society, Manipur Voluntary Health Association, Childline, New Age and Half-way Home was displayed.
They highlighted various issues such as addiction, HIV/AIDS, disabilities and others.
Heated debates on the state of the media in the state, the regular threats to the working journalists to the use of citizen journalism to further the cause of preserving biodiversity were seen during the interaction.
