"Journalism must guide public on right path"

Imphal, June 14 2026:
Calling journalism the fourth pillar of democracy, Imphal Times editor Rinku Khumukcham said its primary duty is to guide the public on the right path.
He was speaking as chief guest at the 13th Devarshi Narad Jayanti celebration organised by Vishwa Samvad Kendra Manipur at Bhaskara Prabha, Konjeng Leikai, on Sunday.
Rinku stressed that journalists must report objectively and place public interest above personal motives, warning that biased dissemination harms society.
He urged media persons to learn from Devarshi Narad's communication values that promoted peace and harmony, and to continuously upgrade their skills.
Senior writer Kakchingtabam Brajamani Sharma, special guest, described Narad Muni as the world's first journalist who carried information across Heaven, Earth, and the Underworld, embodying journalism's essence.
VSK Manipur president A Brajakumar Sharma said journalists bear a major responsibility in educating people and shaping informed opinion through accurate information.
Around 250 working journalists and citizens attended the programme.
