KKL slams Kuki 'aggression', urges Govt to act as Litan violence flare

Imphal, February 12 2026: Hopes for reconciliation in Manipur dimmed today as fresh violence broke out in Ukhrul district, even as the newly formed Government faced rejection from key Kuki organizations over dialogue invitations.

A significant clash unfolded in the Litan area of Ukhrul, triggered by alleged assaults by Kuki individuals on members of the Tangkhul community.

The Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) has issued a stark warning in a release, stating it does not view this as a "minor confrontation".

The KKL accused the Kukis of posing a grave challenge to the region's indigenous people and urged the State Government to act swiftly to prevent further escalation.

This incident coincides with the Government's recent efforts to foster peace following the revocation of President's Rule.

State leaders extended invitations for dialogue to various communities in the capital, Imphal.

However, several Kuki organisations reportedly turned down the overtures, voicing disapproval of the administration's approach amid ongoing ethnic tensions between Meiteis and Kukis.

The KKL emphasized that the Government must not compromise on addressing Kuki groups' claims.

It stressed conditions for coexistence, including mutual respect for identity and origins among all indigenous communities.

The group highlighted the Meitei community's ongoing commitment to peaceful relations with others while firmly rejecting any threats to Manipur's unified identity from "immigrant groups" who do not identify as Manipuri.

As stakeholders grapple with deep ethnic divisions, the political climate remains volatile, with renewed violence underscoring the challenges ahead for the popular new administration.
