Kakching, July 11 2026:
A free eye screening and cataract surgery camp was organised at Thongjao Community Hall under Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency on Saturday through the initiative of NPP Manipur Unit general secretary (Organisation) Maibam Dhanabir in collaboration with Shija Eye Care Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhanabir said residents of Hiyanglam, living along both sides of the Burma-Sugnu Road from Wabagai Lamkhai have long been deprived of adequate healthcare facilities.
He said Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency remains backward in terms of healthcare infrastructure, with most residents depending on agriculture for their livelihood and facing difficulties in travelling to Imphal for medical treatment.
As many families belong to economically weaker sections, the camp was organised to provide affordable and accessible eye care services, he added.
Dhanabir further assured that similar healthcare camps would be organised in other parts of the constituency in the future.
The camp provided free screening and consultation for cataract, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, childhood eye disorders, corneal diseases, pterygium and other eye ailments.
Eligible patients were also identified for free cataract surgery.
