2nd Sangai Day observed at Keibul Lamjao with conservation message

To raise awareness on the need to conserve the Sangai, Manipur's State animal, the second Sangai Day was observed today at Keibul Lamjao Makha Leikai Ima Phouoibee Community Hall, under the theme "Let's Know Our Sangai, Let's Save Our Sangai" .
The event, organised by the Sangai First Foundation (SfF), Manipur, was attended by Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), Government of Manipur, Longjam Joykumar; SfF president Dr Khangembam Shamungou; Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur, Director Dr Tourangbam Brajakumar; Loktak Development Authority (LDA) Project Director Ngangom Sanajaoba Meitei; and Forest Park and Sanctuary, Government of Manipur, Deputy Conservator Amit Kaler, IFS, as presidium members.
During the program, the annual report of SfF was released and prizes were distributed to winners of the Quiz and Written Competition of the Yarou Sangai, 2025, held on November 9 .
The winners included: L Urmila Chanu (Class X) of Sanatombi Oriental English School, Kumbi; Thoi Tongbram (Class IX) of Paradise Gardening School, Chandpur; Bikram Lourembam (Class IX) of Comprehensive School, Oinam; Haobijam Anamika (Class X) of Ningthoukhong Hr Sec School; and Keisham Lanchenba (Class X) of Bethel English School, Nambol.
All winners were awarded certificates and mementos for their achievements.
The foundation also acknowledged 10 students for spreading the message of SAngai conservation through social media and presented them with appreciation certificates.
Media personnel supporting conservation efforts were also recognised for their contribution to public awareness.
Speakers emphasised the urgent need to protect the endangered Sangai and encouraged wider community participation in safeguarding the species for future generations.
