Liwa Khullen holds awareness programme on tobacco-free village

A village awareness programme on the Tobacco-Free Village Initiative under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) was held at Liwa Khullen village, Chandel district, today to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and encourage community participation in tobacco control.
The programme was organised by the District Tobacco Control Cell, District Health Society, Chandel.
DNO, NTCP, Chandel, Dr Laishram Deben Singh and Counsellor, District Hospital, Chandel, Mutum Oken Singh attended the programme as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Laishram Deben Singh highlighted the objectives of the NTCP, key provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, and the health, social and economic consequences of tobacco use.
He urged the community to ensure that public places, schools and the entire village remain free from tobacco use.
Mutum Oken Singh conducted a session on tobacco cessation and counselling, informing participants about the support services available for those seeking to quit tobacco.
He also emphasised the important role of family members in helping tobacco users adopt a tobacco-free lifestyle.
Village authorities, Self-Help Group members, youths and residents of Liwa Khullen participated in the programme.
Information, Education and Communication (TEC) materials on tobacco control were also distributed among the participants.
The participants subsequently took a pledge to support tobacco control measures and work collectively towards making Liwa Khullen a tobacco-free village.
