Imphal, January 10 2009: WITH THE alleged failure of the state government to implement the 6th Pay Commission in the state, the All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare has asserted that they would boycott the forthcoming Lok Sabha election if the pay commission was not implemented at the earliest.

The lecturers' welfare also held that they would not perform their duties in the upcoming Board and Council of the state scheduled to be held from late February to March.

Organising a sit-in-protest in this regard at the Tamphasana Girls Higher Secondary school gate in Imphal, N Joykumar, general secretary of the lecturers' welfare stated that despite the implementation of the commission by the Parliament on September 1, 2008, the Manipur government was yet to implement it.

Urging the government to implement the 6th Pay Commission at the earliest possible, Mr.Singh warned that the delay in the implementation of the pay commission could eventually affect the economy of the state.

He also informed that with the implementation of the pay commission at the centre and for the central employees, the price of essential commodities in the market have gone up 50 percent even before it was implemented in the state.

The general secretary of the lecturers' welfare body also termed it unfortunate that despite over two months cease work strike of All Manipur Trade Union Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees' Organisation (AMGEO) the government was not in a mode to implement the pay commission.

He also asserted that the lecturers' welfare body would boycott the Parliament election and not perform its duty during the coming state Board and Council examinations to be held from late February to March if the commission was not implemented.

The sit-in-protest which was attended by office bearers of about 15 (fifteen) higher secondary schools also demanded the upgradation of education system in the state.

Besides this, the lecturers' welfare also demanded that list of Manipur government employees be completed immediately; that corruption in the educational department be put to an end and that while the corrupted officers were dismiss, those honest and dutiful be promoted.

The welfare also demanded the teachers account transaction of Grand Provident Fund was not disturb and that some honest principals were given the post of additional directors.

Besides these, a press statement of the All Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association issued by its general secretary S.Guna Meitei informed that the teachers' association will also organised a sit-in-protest against the non-implementation of the 6th Pay Commission by the state government.
