Call to preserve indigenous culture marks World Indigenous Day in Imphal

The World Human Rights Protection Organisation LLC, registered in the State of Colorado (USA) and Golden Dragon Ibudhou Pakhangba International University jointly organised the World Indigenous Day Honorary Doctorate and International Award Ceremony, 2026 at Manipur Press Club today.
The World Indigenous Day function was graced by Khurai AC MLA Leishangthem Susindro Meitei as chief guest, Lamlai AC MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha as president and Vice Chancellor of Golden Dragon Ibudhou Pakhangba International University Dr N Irabanta Singh as guest of honour.
As part of the ceremony, Leishangthem Susindro and Khongbantabam Ibomcha were felicitated with Honorary Doctorate certificates as per tradition.
Awards were also presented to distinguished artists belonging to various indigenous communities of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Susindro said the observance of World Indigenous Day is very significant for Manipur.
He stressed the need for greater unity and peaceful coexistence among the indigenous communities living together in the State and called for collective efforts to prevent the disintegration of Manipur.
He said all must work together and overcome challenges collectively, and that everyone has a responsibility to protect indigenous peoples from extinction.
He also called for preserving and promoting the traditions and cultures of all indigenous communities living together in Manipur.
He further said that for the Meiteis, Umang Lai Haraoba festival is of utmost importance and appealed to all to make collective efforts to preserve it.
