No more Power shortage for Manipur University
10 KWp SPV power plant installed in MU Guest House initially

Imphal, February 08, 2012: In a first step to provide uninterrupted power supply in Manipur University, the authority concerned installed a 10 KWp Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) power plant in its Guest House, thereby offering 24-hour uninterrupted power supply.

The 10 KWp Solar Photovoltaic power plant is being installed in the guest house at an estimated cost of Rs 30 lakhs by the Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Ltd (REIL).

Out of the total estimated cost, 90% will be granted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (SPV Group), while the remaining 10% will be borne by the University.

Manipur University (MU) which has a special power line sometimes faces acute power supply and this power shortage would be made up by the solar power plant installed at the Guest House.

With this solar power plant, 16 ordinary rooms, 8 VIP rooms, VIP waiting hall, dining hall and the computer room of the Guest House will be provided uninterrupted power supply.

The power plant will also provide power in an around the main gate of the institute.

Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao in this regard, Prof H Nandakumar, VC, MU, said that even though there is special power line provided to MU, the institute experiences load shedding from midnight till 4 in the morning everyday.

And the power supply received by the institute during the day is also not certain.

So there is the need to supplement the power received by the university as the Guest House, Library, Administrative Block and different departments are being provided internet facilities and at the same time the working of these places require sufficient and uninterrupted power supply.

Use of renewable energy sources will help in overcoming the power shortage of the university.

As such the institute is taking the help of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (SPV Group) to provide solar photovoltaic power.

He also pointed out that the institute is initially installing the10 KWp Solar Photovoltaic power plant in the Guest House since all national and foreign resource persons who come to attend seminars and workshops organised in the university stay in the Guest House.

He further said that another10 KWp Solar Photovoltaic solar power plant will also be installed in the Library where there are more than 50 internet terminals and provide 24 hour power supply.

Likewise, installation of Solar Photovoltaic in the Administrative Block will also be taken up very soon.

He also informed that the State and Central government institutes are provided 90% subsidy in installing Solar Photovoltaic Module Power Supplyand appealed to all the government institutes to avail this opportunity.
