Ukhrul, April 07 2026:
The Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association (TBCA) has strongly refuted allegations levelled against Rev Ramyothing Phungshok, Pastor of Sinakeithei Baptist Church, terming them "unjust, defamatory, and an attempt to escalate communal tensions" .
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the TBCA rejected claims made by the Kuki CSO Working Committee on April 5, which reportedly linked the Pastor's Palm Sunday sermon to firing incidents that occured the same day.
The association asserted that such claims amount to scapegoating and misplacing accountability for the prevailing unrest in the region, ignoring the complex realities of the ongoing conflict and risk aggravating communal discord.
Condemning the criticism directed at Rev Phungshok, the TBCA said that accusations made without proper understanding not only harm individual reputations but also undermine the sincere efforts of community leaders who serve with integrity.
It emphasized that church leaders are dedicated individuals committed to serving society, and sweeping judgements reflect a lack of respect and discernment.
The TBCA also called for an immediate end to all forms of harassment, including the spread of false accusations, and urged the concerned committee to exercise discernment and avoid spreading negativity.
Reaffirming its stance, the association strongly condemned what it described as attempts to divert attention from actual perpetrators by targeting a religious leader.
It reiterated its full support to Rev Ramyothing Phungshok against the allegations.
