Imphal, August 06 2024:
Relief Committee JNIMS has urged the State Government to appoint a regular Director for Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) to ensure its smooth functioning and administration.
A statement issued by Kambam Seityajit, convenor and Thoidingjam Bon Khurai, chairman has informed that JNIMS has been operating without a regular Director since July, 2024 .
JNIMS medical college has witnessed many changes post its takeover by the State Health Department from December 1, 2023 .
Relief Committee JNIMS highlighted that on many instances, shortage of X-ray films have led to stoppage of X-Ray services while lack of the necessary number of reagents has reduced the medical tests that can be performed here.
JNIMS Relief Committee has also accused a few doctors of taking advantage of such circumstances and colluding with private laboratories and clinics to make money.
It further added that making the patient party purchase basic items like cotton, plaster, syringe is against the norms of a Government hospital.
The hospital has failed to provide regular supply of NS, DNS, Dextrose, RL to the patients and stationary items necessary for the hospital administration.
Additionally, out of 7 dialysis machines at the hospital, only 3 are operational while only 8 out of 16 special wards are functional due to lack of staff.
Stating that the absence of a regular Director is posing an obstacle to the hospital's progress, Relief Committee JNIMS has called for appointment of the same swiftly.
