Imphal, July 06 2026:
The North Eastern Electric Power Cooperation Limited (NEEPCO) has clarified that the flash flood which struck the Panyor Lower Hydro Power Station residential colony on June 24 was not caused by dam or power house operations.
One person died and four remain missing after intense localized rainfall around 3 am triggered two streams near the administrative and dam site colony to overflow, washing away 24 residential buildings.
The State Government, District Administration, SDRF and Indian Air Force carried out rescue and relief works.
In a release, NEEPCO said its Early Warning System for rainfall and reservoir inflow did not record any high rainfall or discharge during the incident.
As per the preliminary assessment, the incident was due to localized heavy rainfall in the project area, and not due to any sudden increase in upstream river flow.
NEEPCO further stated there has been no impact reported in downstream areas of the project.
