Collection & aggregation unit, seed warehouse inaugurated

Imphal, March 06 2025: Horticulture and Soil Conservation commissioner Thaithuilung Pamei has inaugurated a collection and aggregation unit, and a seed warehouse constructed under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) at Heirok Part-2 in Thoubal district on Thursday.

The facilities were constructed through Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) for Nongpok Organic Sintha Lup Producer Company Limited, Thoubal & Kakching, and Chumthang Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited, Thoubal & Kakching.

Speaking on the occasion, Thaithuilung Pamei expressed confidence that efforts made by the department in association with other line departments such as agriculture, fisheries, CADA and water resources would help enhance food production in the state.

He also informed that the department will soon establish a food processing unit at the cost of Rs 50 lakh, and also provide crop vans to registered organisations for transporting products to the market.

The chief secretary recently chaired discussions with officials of agriculture, horticulture and other line departments to boost the farming sector in the state, he added.

In his address, MOMA project director Soubam Donald said that MOVCDNER is a scheme involving both agriculture and horticulture department, implemented in the eight northeast states.

There are 76 registered farmers producer companies under MOMA, with over 4000 farmers practicing organic farming in over 4000 hectares of farmland in the state, where high value crops are grown, he added.

Thoubal DC A Subhash, Horticulture and Soil Conservation director K Devdutta Sharma, Thoubal district agriculture officer Jaiprakash, district horticulture & soil conservation officer Khaidem Malemnganba, and MOVCDNER (agriculture) project officer Kh Nimaichand were also present at the event.
