Imphal, March 05 2025: The Safai Karmachari Sangh Manipur has extended its appreciation to Deputy Labour Commissioner Tanushree Naorem for ensuring that the Imphal Municipal Council, MAHUD provide the enhanced minimum wage and backlog arrear to safai karmacharis (sanitary workers).

In a release, the Safai Karmachari Sangh Manipur recounted that on September 11, 2023, an agreement was signed between the Imphal Municipal Council, Manipur Housing and Urban Development (MUDA), All Manipur Trade Unions Council (AMTUC) and Safai Karmachari Sangh Manipur at the office of the Deputy Labour Commissioner/Conciliation Officer, regarding provision of enhanced minimum wage and benefits under ESIC Act, 1948 to sanitary workers.

The Sangh appreciated the Deputy Labour Commissioner for advising the Imphal Municipal Corporation to take necessary steps to provide the benefits guaranteed under the ESIC Act, 1948 to sanitary workers.

The Sangh also appealed to the authorities concerned to issue the notification for payment of bonus to employees for "Yaoshang Festival" on time and appoint a Presiding Officer of the Labour Court at the earnest.
