BYPA demands Cabinet Minister from Meitei-Pangal community

Bishnupur, February 05 2026: The Borayangbi Youth Progressive Alliance (BYPA) has demanded the inclusion of a full-fledged Cabinet Minister from among the Meitei-Pangal MLAs in the newly formed State Cabinet of the Manipur Government, stating that the demand is rooted in the principles of equitable representation and constitutional mandate.

In a release, the BYPA said that the Meitei-Pangal community, which has consistently played a key role in the social, cultural and economic life of Manipur, remains an important constituent of the State's diverse social fabric.

Stating that the Article 164 of the Indian Constitution empowered the Chief Minister of a State to select Ministers, the BYPA said that such selection should reflect democratic ethos, federal harmony and fair representation.

The BYPA further asserted that failure to include a Cabinet Minister from the Meitei-Pangal community would be perceived as marginalisation of the community, and urged the newly formed Government to uphold the principle of unity in diversity in the composition of the Cabinet.

The organisation warned that if it's demand is not met, it would resort to peaceful protests, seek legal remedies and submit an appeal to the Governor, the release added.

Meanwhile, the United Manipur Muslim Women's Development Organisation (UMMWDO) has also demanded for a Cabinet Minister from among the Meitei-Pangal MLAs .
