Imphal, October 04 2024:
The Rongmei Naga Students' Organization, Manipur (RNSOM) and Rongmei Naga Youth Organization Manipur (RNYOM) have threatened to launch intense agitations if the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Centre located at Noney District HQ does not begin operation before the commencement of the upcoming academic session.
Notably, the DIET Centre was inaugurated on February 4, 2023 in the presence of the Education Minister, Hill Areas Committee Chairman and Commissioner of the Education Department.
But reportedly, it has yet to start functioning.
Speaking to media persons during a press briefing held at Thangjing Hall of Manipur Press Club organised by RNSOM and RNYOM, Ripuilan Pamei, president, RNSOM said that the training centre is dealing with poor infrastructure while adding that the teachers have also not been fully operationalised.
Under the guidelines of the Education Department, the RNSOM president appealed to the State Government to fulfill the shortcomings of the DIET Centre and ensure that it starts operation before the commencement of the upcoming academic session.
This will also provide opportunities to the students from Tamenglong and Noney districts who want to receive DIET training, he added.
He further informed that RNSOM and RNYOM will jointly conduct a surprise inspection drive at Government schools, Government-aided schools and private schools in Rongmei areas.
Additionally, the Rongmei bodies will interact with the teachers, staff and students and present their grievances to the State Government.
