World Zoonoses Day 2026 observed at RIMS

World Zoonoses Day 2026 was observed Saturday at Jubilee Hall, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, by the Regional Coordinator, National One Health Programme for Prevention and Control of Zoonoses, Department of Microbiology, RIMS.
The event was held under the theme "A Musical Journey into Awareness: Understanding Zoonoses, One Note at a Time" .
It aimed to raise public awareness on zoonotic diseases- infections that spread between animals and humansand to promote the One Health approach, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health.
Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, attended as chief guest.
Prof H Rebachandra Singh, Head, Department of Microbiology, presided.
Guests of honour included Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent RIMS Hospital; Dr Natasha Elangbam, founder, NESMA; Dr RK Rosie, State Surveillance Officer, IDSP, Manipur; and L Biramangol Singh, Director, Manipur Zoological Garden.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Sharma highlighted the global theme "Working Together: Preventing Zoonoses through Community Action".
Citing COVID-19 and other emerging diseases, he stressed community participation, hygiene, vaccination, early reporting, and collective responsibility.
A unique awareness programme through music by Northeast School of Music and Arts (NESMA) was also presented to make scientific messages more engaging.
