Thoubal, July 03 2026:
As part of its year-long campaign, "Politics: Vote for National Regeneration," the Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) on Friday organised a public awareness meeting at the Uyal Oriental Club Hall, Uyal Makha Leikai, in Thoubal district to promote ethical and informed voting.
The programme was organised in collaboration with local Meira Paibis, Uyal Oriental Club (UOC) and Uyal Youth Library and Information Centre (UYLICL).
It was attended by social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram, UOC president Ajit Thangjam, UYLICL president H Bijen and MAYOL president Koijam Suresh.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Dhanabir Laishram stressed the importance of conducting free and fair elections, saying the failure to uphold electoral integrity over the years has adversely affected governance and society.
He urged people to become more aware of the challenges facing the State and make informed choices while electing their representatives.
He emphasised the need to choose capable, honest and deserving candidates and appealed to the public to actively support MAYOL's campaign for electoral reforms and responsible voting.
Speaking at the programme, MAYOL president Koijam Suresh said the time had come for citizens to work collectively towards building a progressive and prosperous society by electing educated, competent and committed representatives who genuinely serve the interests of the people and the State.
He appealed to voters not to sell their votes or compromise their democratic rights for short-term gains, stating that the quality of governance depends on the choices made during elections.
Politics, he said, determines the direction and future of society, making it essential for citizens to participate responsibly in the democratic process.
