National Cleanliness Day observed statewide

National Cleanliness Day was observed throughout the state to mark the 142nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation who led the nation in its struggle for freedom from the British using Non-violence as his most powerful weapon.
The state function was observed by the Home Department at GM Hall where floral tributes were paid to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi as a mark of respect, led by the Governor, Gurbachan Jagat followed by the Chief Minister, O Ibobi along with his Council of Ministers.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that all communities living in the state should live peacefully with each other.
This is possible only when the mind is pure and free from all unwanted thoughts.
Love or hatred, himsa or ahimsa, these are all born out of the mind.
He further went on to say that anything that is born out of the mind tends to grow.
Helpful ideas are born out of a pure mind and contrary to that an impure mind begets unwanted and unnecessary ideas.
As such we need to keep our mind in a pure state thereby removing all the hatred and detest existing among individuals, which are man made.
We should also keep our surroundings neat and clean.
This keeps us away from all dreaded diseases.
We should all follow the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi and spread his ideas of non violence across the whole world.
Governor Gurvachan Jagat, in his speech said that Mahatma Gandhi belongs to the whole world and to all generations.
He stands tall among the great leaders and thinkers of the world.
His profound humanism is his massage.
He stood firmly for the cause of the downtrodden and oppressed not only in India but also in other parts of the world.
He lived and died for peace and welfare of mankind.
He will be remembered as one of the greatest spiritual forces of all times.
The present generation should try to imbibe the virtues of tolerance and humanism.
He further said that Mahatma Gandhi always emphasized the need for cleanliness for healthy living.
Healthy people make a healthy nation.
Due to unhygienic and dirty environment numerous lives are lost every year to various diseases.
Therefore great attention has to be given for removal and disposal of garbage on a regular basis.
The state of cleanliness which we maintain today should be made a regular feature.
It should be a way of life rather then just a routine observance.
It should be a wake-up call for all of us to maintain high standards of cleanliness in our homes, work place, roads and public places, he said.
He further appealed to the general public to ensure peaceful co-existence and to make all out efforts to keep our body, mind and soul clean.
The National Cleanliness Day was also observed by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee at Congress Bhawan, BT Road.
The observation was marked by paying floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi as a mark of respect to the departed soul led by Chief Minister O Ibobi, his Council of Ministers, MLAs and MPCC, President, Gaikhangam.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaikhangam said that the economic blockade is against the wishes of Mahatma Gandhi and his non violent acts.
The agitators should put a stop to their violent agitations and look for other non-violent means.
The day was also observed by the Thoubal District Congress Committee at its office at Thoubal.
Sanjenbam Achou along with the office bearers of the Thoubal District Congress Committee, Frontal Chiefs' and block members attended the function.
The National Cleanliness Day was also observed by the police and VDF personnel of Bishnupur district under Th Radheshyam, SP, Bishnupur along with two Addl SSP and officers by organizing a cleanliness drive at CHC, Nambol, Nambol-PS to Nambol bazaar along Tiddim Road sides, Nambol Boys Hr Sec School, Bpr District Hospital, Court Complex, Bpr, Ningthoukhong bazaar, Ningthoukhong PHC, Patel bazaar, Miorang lamkhai, Moirang bazaar, CHC.
