ORS Week Celebration 2024 held

Pediatric Association of Manipur (PAM) organised ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) Week Celebration 2024 at Maipakpi Hospital located at North AOC today.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Khoirom Tomba Singh, Managing Director, Maipakpi Hospital highlighted the need for people to spread awareness about the benefits of ORS in preventing diarrhoea.
Diarrhoea is responsible for the deaths of many children under 5 years of age.
In the initial stage of the disease, a child must be given ORS, fed consistently and be given breast milk.
This will help save the child from diarrhoea, said Dr Khoirom Tomba Singh.
Stating that dehydration is the main cause of death in children suffering from diarrhoea.
he said that giving ORS is the first step in managing the illness.
ORS is the cheapest and most miraculous drug of the 21st century, he added.
Meanwhile, Dr Anibala Devi, MD, Pediatrics stated that diarrhoea is a preventable and treatable disease.
However, diarrhoea takes the life of 443,832 children under 5 years of age globally per year.
Additionally, another 50,851 lives between the ages of 5-9 years are lost worldwide every year due to this preventable disease, she said.
The event was graced by Dr Thangjam Nabachandra, Senior Pediatrician, Maipakpi Hospital and Professor N Kameshore Singh, EB, CLAP, Manipur & Tripura as the functional president and guest of honour respectively.
