Students demand appointment of regular VC

Imphal, November 29 2025: Demanding swift appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor for the university, students of Manipur Technical University (MTU) staged a sit-in protest at their campus in Takyelpat today.

According to an unnamed student protester, MTU has been operating without a regular VC for the last two years and 10 months.

At the 10th foundation day of MTU held on August 5, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla reportedly said that the appointment of a regular VC has been delayed due to a pending court case.

Meanwhile, a Manipur High Court order dated October 27, 2025 reportedly found no issue with reinstating former VC Tongbram Bhabeswar.

However, the concerned State authority has not initiated any action till date, said the protesting student.

The students have cautioned to launch more intense forms of protests if a new VC is not appointed soon.
