Imphal, March 29 2025:
A bike rally advocating for a drug-free state, organised by the Anti-Narcotic Drugs Organisation Kangleipak (ANDOK), was flagged off from Kangla Western Gate by NAB SP Watham Bashu on Saturday.
The rally, held under the theme "Iramdam Asigi Tungee Mirol Kananaba Khongchat", was attended by JNIMS Director Dr L Deben, NAB additional SP Y Kishorchand, NAB OC S Ibomcha and ANDOK president Chingkhei Luwangcha.
Speaking at the event, Watham Bashu said that the rally aimed to curb the sale and use of drugs, ultimately making the state drug-free.
He highlighted the importance of understanding supply reduction, demand reduction and harm reduction in tackling the drug problem.
He further explained that awareness programmes on drug abuse fall under demand reduction and stressed the need to organise such initiatives to lower drug consumption.
Dr Laishram Deben shared his experiences as the former JNIMS director, mentioning instances where drugs were smuggled into the medical institute.
Recalling cases where drugs were seized and destroyed, he urged for collective action to save the lives of youth from substance abuse.
Concerned over the rising number of drug users in the state, he called for public support and cooperation in government-led efforts to combat drug abuse and help achieve a drug-free state.
