DESPITE THE report of non-participation of several fish farmers, the State fisheries department is all set to organise the annual fish fair cum exhibition in Imphal Pologround on October 30 in view of the Ningol-Chakkouba festival which falls on October 31 .
This time state authority is targeting to produce not less than 50,000 kilograms of varieties of fishes during the fair.
"This year our target is 50,000 kgs" says Karam Saratchandra, Director of Fisheries department said.
Last year around 56,000 kgs of fishes were produced.
However Unlike the previous year,the visitors at the fair wouldn't get the opportunity to buy prawns this time.
The fisheries officials also confirmed it.
Last year it was sold at Rs 300 per kilogram.
The reason is simple,the farmers couldn't produce due to unavailability of fingerlings in time.
The annual fish fair which aims to hold a competition for the fish farmers and also promoting them in producing varieties of fishes will be formally opened by State fisheries minister Md Allaudin at Imphal pologround on October 30 around 12.40 pm.
Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board E Dwijamani Singh would preside over the opening function while Khundrakpam assembly constituency MLA Th Lokeshwar will attend as guest of honour.
Meanwhile All Manipur Federation of Progressive Farmers' Society which more than 500 fish farmers under a dozen societies have reportedly decided to not to take part in the fisheries department sponsored fish fair this time.
