CCpur, October 27 2024: The Kuki-Zo Council has rejected the Government's "decision" to constitute temporary administrative committees forsix Autonomous District Councils (ADCs).

In a statement, it said, the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) resolution of October 14 recommending temporary administrative committees for the ADCs is in total contravention of the District Councils Act, 1971 & Rules, 1972."It is an attempt to curtail the powers and functions of the Constitutionally set up ADCs of Manipur," it said.

The decision is a direct threat to the democratic principles and autonomy of the ADCs as it undermines the power vested in the elected representatives by the people, it added.

"The Kuki-Zo Council firmly believes that such a move would erode the very foundation of the ADCs and would go against the spirit of decentralization and self-governance," it said.
