Thoubal, February 27 2026:
In the wake of the Government's failure to repair the deteriorating road stretches from Yaripok Lamkhai to Yairipok Keithel and from Yairipok Keithel leading to Kasom Khullen in Kamjong district, members of Nongpok Sayang Apunba Lup (NSAL), in collaboration with the Nongpok-Ningthou Tata Tripper Owners' Association, carried out temporary repair works on Friday.
The volunteers levelled uneven portions of the road and filled large potholes with gravel to make the stretch motorable and provide relief to commuters.
The repair drive was initiated from the Yairipok Keithel Mamang turning point.
NSAL, an apex body comprising clubs and organisations from Thoubal Kshetri Leikai to Chandrakhong-Phangjakhong, spearheaded the initiative.
The repair work will cover key stretches of the Yairipok-Thoubal road, including Bishnunaha, Siphai Leikai, Singa, Wangkhem Phouden Kshetri Leikai, Melaground Lamkhai and up to Khoirom, where extensive potholes and uneven surfaces have long hampered vehicular movement.
Speaking on the occasion, NSAL president Ananda Laishram stated that the road stretch from Thoubal Melaground to the road that leads to Kasom Khullen has been riddled with large potholes and uneven patches, causing severe inconvenience to commuters and affecting transportation and commercial activities.
To ease the hardships to some extent, the organisation initiated the filling of potholes and levelling of damaged portions, he said.
Ananda further remarked that the repair work was undertaken with the spirit that while citizens cannot replace the Government, they will not remain silent in the face of prolonged neglect.
He added that the initiative has received assistance from individuals and appealed to those willing to extend further support to contact NSAL.
Emphasising that the road is a crucial lifeline for transport, trade and daily activities, NSAL urged the Government to take stock of the situation and initiate comprehensive and permanent repair work at the earliest.
