Imphal, November 26 2010:
Upon invitation fom the Task Force Detainees of The Philipines, well-known journalist and former Member of Manipur Human Rights Commission, Yambem Laba will be leaving Imphal for Manila to attend the 4th Regional Human Rights Defenders Forum, from December 2 to 4 .
During this event, Human Rights Defenders from all over Asia will gather to share their experiences, update each other on Developments in Human Rights and bring forward the most recent issues they encounter in their work on promoting and protecting Human Rights in the region.
The overall theme for the Forum this year is "Recognizing the Role of Human Rights Defenders and women human rights Defenders in strengthening and building of democracy" .
The Meet will also be attended amongst others by the United Nation's Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders,who will also be visiting India next year.
Accordingly more time has been slotted for the delegates from India to give her a preliminary briefing on the issues concerning Human Rights Defenders and Women Human Rights Defenders in India and familiarise her on the general state oh human rights in Manipur and elsewhere in the country, Yambem Laba stated.
He will be leaving Imphal tomorrow.
