Imphal, July 26 2025: The State Handloom Expo (Hathkargha Mela) organised by Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (MHHDCL) began yesterday at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi, Imphal East district.

The 14 days long expo was conducted under the sponsorship of the Office of die Development Commissioner (Handloom), .

Ministry of Textile, Government of India.

The opening ceremony was graced by dignitaries, including Th Basanta Singh, General Manager, MHHDCL; Beauty Mili, Assistant Director & HoO, Weavers Service Centre, Imphal; and Heikham Sunita Devi, National Awardee (Handloom) .

Speaking on the occasion, Beauty Mili expressed joy in seeing the high quality handloom and handicraft products showcased at the Mela.

She shared that Melas have been conducted under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles from time-to-time to support local weavers & artisans and provide a marketing platform.

She advised the weavers and artisans to not focus only on profit and maintain quality of the products to ensure a steady demand & market for these products.

Beauty Mili also encouraged weavers and artisans of the State to participate in the National Handloom Day scheduled to be held on August 7 .
