Former GoC Nagaland Lt Gen Lakhera to be new DG Assam Rifles

New Delhi, July 26 2024: Assam Rifles in northeast will get its new administrative boss.

Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, former GoC Nagaland and ex IG Assam Rifles will now be new Director General Assam Rifles (DGAR) .

He will be posted in Shillong.

Recently he was promoted from Maj Gen rank to Lt Gen and was posted to army headquarters for sometime.

Lt Gen Lakhera takes over new assignment and replace outgoing DGAR Lt Gen P C Nair who is retiring on July 31 .

Earlier when Maj Gen Lakhera was promoted as Lt Gen; DGAR Lt Gen Nair had tweeted to describe it as a momentous occasion for Assam Rifles and testament to hardwork and dedication.

Major General Lakhera assumed the command of the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) on January 5, 2022.He moved out earlier this year on promotion.

The Assam Rifles is a paramilitary force under the union Home Ministry but its operational activities and administration are supervised by top Indian army generals.
