Incomplete ITI building angers Noney residents; CSOs serve 10-day ultimatum

Noney, March 26 2026: The construction of an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) building at Longmai Pt-I in Noney district has come under scrutiny after a joint inspection revealed that the project remains incomplete.

The project, estimated at Rs 9.50 crore, is being executed under the Department of Skill, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Government of Manipur, with the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation serving as the implementing agency.

The foundation stone of the project was laid on June 13, 2022, via video conferencing by former Chief Minister N Biren Singh in the presence of former Minister of Skill, Labour, Employment & Entrepreneurship, H Dingo Singh.

On Thursday, leaders of various civil society organisations (CSOs) from the Longmai area, along with village authorities, carried out a joint inspection of the site.

During the inspection, it was found that construction work has been left incomplete, raising serious concern among the local residents.

Following inspection, CSO leaders issued a strong warning to the contractor, the concerned department, the local MLA and the State Government, demanding that the matter be addressed within 10-days.They cautioned that failure to take necessary action within the stipulated timeframe would compel CSOs in the Longmai area to launch democratic forms of agitation.
