Wreath laying ceremony held

The Assam Rifles organised a wreath-laying ceremony on Monday, in honour of Rifleman Rajeev Kumar Sharma, who made the ultimate sacrifice for the Nation on November 25, 2013 .
According to a release issued by HQ IGAR(South), Rifleman Sharma was part of a Road Opening Party from the 40 Assam Rifles stationed at Keishampat, Imphal, tasked with securing convoy movement along National Highway 02 .
Tragically, at 4:50 PM on that fateful day, an improvised explosive device detonated near the Public Works Department's water point on the highway, where he was positioned.
Despite urgent medical evacuation to Imphal, he succumbed to his injuries, exemplifying bravery and dedication in the line of duty.
The ceremony held at Shangshak village, included a heartfelt wreath-laying tribute and a minute of silence to remember Rifleman Sharma's courageous deeds.
The Battalion also reached out to his family members on this poignant occasion, expressing their condolences and inquiring about their well-being.
A representative from the unit also visited the family and shared a token of remembrance.
