Imphal, September 25 2010: Van and Tata Sumo passenger service on the Imphal-Moreh section of NH-39 has been suspended from today allegedly after huge unbearable monetary demands were served on them.

The passenger service was suspended from today following threats from the underground elements to fulfill their demands, a police report said.

Around 70 vans and 50 Tata Sumos were servicing on this route on daily basis.

Sources said that an underground outfit is demanding Rs 2000 from each van and Rs 3000 from each Tata Sumo as annual tax payable to them.

The sudden suspension of passenger service has caused immense inconveniences to people needing travelling on this route, particularly to the small time businessmen.
