Tamenglong, June 25 2024:
In line with the observance of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Assam Rifles organised multiple events including abike rally and a documentary screeningtoday.
The bike rally was organised in collaboration with the Zeliro Adventures Bikers' Club along with the District Administration and the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in a bid to raise awareness of the pressing issue of illicit drugs in the society, said a statement by the Assam Rifles.
The bike rally was flagged off from Old Tamenglong and flagged in at Kahulong.
A total of 20 bikers represented the club, and displayed placards against the use of illicit and unprescribed drugs in the town.
They also visited the Soul's Harvesting Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Duigalong to address the 'At risk individuals' in a bid to counter the drug problem and to promote a society free of drug abuse.
As a part of this initiative, an awareness lecture was organised followed by screening of a documentary on the subject for school going children.
Over 150 students from various schools in Tamenglong participated in the event which was organised to educate them about the illegal effects of this malpractice and its harmful influence in the society.
From individuals struggling with substance use disorders to communities grappling with the consequences of drug trafficking and organised crime, the impact of drugs is far reaching and complex.
Central to addressing this challenge is the imperative to adopt an approach guided by the principles of compassion and solidarity.
The initiative undertaken by Assam Rifles represents a symbol of cooperation between the security forces, district administration and people of Tamenglong in order to step up and fight against the issue of drugs and substance abuse.
