CSOs stage sit-in at Jiribam demanding transfer of OC

Jiribam, February 25 2026: Aggrieved over the alleged failure of the Government to transfer the Officer In-Charge (OC) of Jiribam Police Station within the stipulated 48 hours, civil society organisations (CSOs) and public of Jiribam staged a sit-in protest today at Congress Bhavan, Babupara, Jiribam.

The protest was organised in response to the authorities' inaction following a demand raised by Jiribam-based CSOs seeking the transfer of OC Tikendra Thingujam over his alleged irresponsible handling of a complaint related to the seizure of a vehicle by unknown miscreants.

The sit-in demonstration was jointly organised by AJMP, WASED, JIMWAK Jiribam, SWA, IPSA Jiribam, HERICOUN Jiribam, AJIBWA , AMKIL, IKAL and JIMPAL.

Protesters raised slogans demanding the removal of what they termed an "irresponsible" and "biased" OC from Jiribam.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, WASED president Naorem Nibharani stated that the agitation was organised following an appeal made by CSOs and the public on February 22 through electronic and print media, urging the Government to transfer within 48 hours.

Reiterating the demand, she appealed to the Chief Minister, the Director General of Police (DGP), the Home Minister and other law-enforcing authorities to immediately remove the OC from his post.

She alleged that the officer was incompetent, biased and unresponsive to the grievances of the poor and needy.

Nibharani further warned that if the authorities fail to act on the demand, the CSOs would intensify their agitation.

She added that any untoward consequences arising out of the situation would be the responsibility of the Government.
