IAF airlifts 132 stranded NCC cadets from Manipur to Assam amid road blockades

Imphal, May 23 2026: Following the successfill completion of the North Eastern Region (NER) Flying Camp, the Indian Air Force (IAF) executed a critical emergency evacuation today for 132 NCC Air Wing cadets stranded in Manipur.

The cadets had been participating in a ten-day training camp organized by the 1 Manipur Air Squadron NCC, Imphal, which concluded on May 20, 2026 .

However, their return journey to neighboring States was abruptly halted due to sudden and severe road blockades.

To ensure the safety and timely relocation of the youths, the Ministry of Defence, in coordination with the IAF and NCC NER Directorate, Shillong, formulated a swift evacuation plan.

The IAF utilized three AN-32 transport aircraft for the mission.

A total of 132 cadets were safely moved; 60 were flown to Jorhat and 72 to Guwahati in Assam.

The successful operation highlighted exemplary jointmanship between the Armed Forces and NCC authorities.

Officials noted that the swift response ensured cadets reached their destinations in time for upcoming examinations, providing immense relief to anxious parents.

Representatives from the 1 Manipur Air Squadron NCC, Imphal, expressed their sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Defence and the IAF for their unwavering commitment to the welfare and safety of the cadets.
