MASLSA organises Legal Awareness / Advent Christmas Celebration

Imphal, December 22 2025: The Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) in collaboration with Manipal Central Jail, Imphal organised a "Legal Awareness cum Advent Christmas Celebration" for inmates of the jail today.

The event was graced by Justice Ahanthem Bimol Singh, Judge, High Court of Manipur & Executive Chairman, MASLSA.

As per a release issued by MASLSA, the programme begins with the singing of Christmas carol by Harvest Team, Manipur and presentation of special numbers from the inmates and a talent show.

Renowned comedian & actor Thokchom Joseph was also present at the event, making it more lively and fun for all.

After the Legal Awareness Programme on the topic "Prison Legal Aid Clinic and the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) System", various games & sports for all age groups were organised and prizes were distributed to all the winners & participants.

Inmates of the jail along with MASLSA staff, Advocate PLVs and Jail staff actively participated in the games.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice A Bimol stated that the programme was organised to reassure inmates that they are not alone and that MASLSA stands with them to provide legal aid and necessary assistance.

He informed that MASLSA would extend legal support to convicts intending to file appeals before the High Court of Manipur or the Supreme Court of India.

He also added that undertrial prisoners seeking bail could avail assistance through the Legal Aid Clinic established within the jail.

Justice A Bimol also distributed gift items such as shoes, sweaters, pants, socks, toys, Horlicks, lactogen, chocolates, shawls, socks, hand towel, toothbrush, etc to the inmates.

An awareness session on the "Functioning of the Prison Legal Aid Clinic and the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) System" was also conducted by Alek Muivah, Member Secretary, MASLSA.

Alek Muivah also expressed gratitude to Justice Bimol Singh; Arvind Kumar, DGP (Prisons), Manipur; IK Muivah, ADGP (Prisons), Manipur; SK Bhadrika, SP, Manipur Central Jail; Harvest team, Thokchom Joseph & all the participants for making the programme a grand success.

The celebration ended with a grand feast shared by the inmates, officers & staff of MASLSA and Jail Authority.

Approximately 60 inmates, including those lodged at the Foreign Detention Centre, Manipur Central Jail, Imphal, participated in the programme.
